Term 4 Week 8

Today I finished my website and updated my blog. I felt very happy with my finished website which can be found at:

Term 4 Week 7

Today I went through my website and made sure all the links worked correctly, all the content was displayed correctly and all the images and text where in the right place. I then started checking over pages for spelling mistakes. I gave a few friends the URL of my website so they could look at it, give me their opinions and point out any errors or mistakes.

Term 4 Week 6

Today I had only the Videos and the Songs page to finish. I logged onto MediaMaster, and took the embed code for the media player. In Dreamweaver I had to insert them as Flash objects and link them to the embed code. I then signed up for a PhotoBucket account so I could upload videos and post them on my videos page, without making the bandwidth of my page to large. I uploaded all the videos then used the embed codes and the same process as before to put them on the page.

Term 4 Week 5

Today I carried on putting all the content on to the pages of my website. I decided that I would need to find a free web-hosting service that would give me a free interactive media player on my "Songs" page. I decided to use MediaMaster, an Internet host that would let me upload mp3 files and give me a embed code for a media player on my page. I also would have to do the same process for the video files I wanted to upload to the videos page.

Today I created copies of all 8 pages I would need for my website, from the template page. I started work on the Enter Site page, often typing up content from notes I had taken. I then went on to work on the homepage, and the news page. Where possible I would insert all the content but in some places I had to leave sections blank with image place holders and return to them later.

Term 4 Week 3

Today after finalizing the templates, I started recieved the CSS i needed from the previous week fro my background image. For the CSS to work properly I had to change the page background colour to black in the Page Properties menu so that when the image ended the same shade of black carried on. I inserted the CSS into my template page and it worked perfectly.

Term 4 Week 2

This lesson I realised that the background image I had wanted to use for my pages was not long enough in pixels for some of my pages. I asked my tutor and he said I would need a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) that would continue the illusion of a gradient even after the image had ended. Because my pages faded from red to black down the page, I had to take a thin vertical segment from my background image, only a few pixels wide, and have this inserted in a CSS file I could insert on my template page.

Term 4 Week 1

During the holidays I had collected a lot of different content from the different band members including pictures, profiles of themselves and an overview of the band. The first page that I started work on was "The Band" page. I arranged a table to house a picture of each of the 4 band members and a mini profile of themselves, as well as their names and ages.

Term 3 Week 8

Today I started working on my final template that I was going to use to create the pages for my website. I arranged the menu bar and put the top banner in place and placed editable regions on the page so I could change content depending on page. By the end of the lesson I had my completed template.

Term 3 Week 7

This week I carried on designing logos and buttons for the website. The band had provided me with a jpeg logo for the band. I used Photoshop to remove a section of this image and used it to create a button menu that appeared to from one larger image. I also decided that my website should have 8 pages including a songs page, a videos page and a page profiling the members of the band.

Term 3 Week 5

Today I carried on developing design ideas for the band's website. I experimented further with page layouts, menu designs, buttons etc. Today I also finished a rough copy of what I wanted the "Enter Site" page to look like.

Term 3 Week 4

Today I received some images and other content from the band so I experimented further. The band had also decided on the colour scheme of red and black so I incorporated this into my design. I also decided on some of the pages my website should have such as Songs, Shows, Music etc.

Term 3 Week 3

Today I started by looking at websites in a similar category to mine so that I could tell the other band members what would be suitable content to provide me with.The band had also given some colour schemes to experiment with. I also made some rough content like banners and menu buttons using the skill and software I had learned from last term.

Term 3 Week 2

Today I decided the my website client would be my band, The Life Aside. I agreed with another band member that he would supply me content based on ideas from the other band members. I had to send an email to my tutor explaining who my client, and how I would be receiving the content to put on our website.

Term 3 Week 1

Today we updated our blogs, and reviewed our assignments on grading and comparing websites. We were also told to start researching possible clients to make a website for.

This week we handed in our Assignment 2. We than started doing research on website in a similar category to the website we would be making for our clients.
